welcome to my pokemon page!
Unlike most people who grew up with Pokémon in their childhood, their first games being the original Red and Blue or one of the DS greats, I didn't get into playing the games until I was a teenager. I collected the TCG when I was a kid, but I genuinely did not know Pokémon was a video game until the release of Sun and Moon on the 3DS. Since then, I've been absolutely in love with Pokémon, collecting merch, cards, and recently, going back and playing every game!

my pokemon experience
As stated before, I didn't grow up playing the Pokémon games. In fact, I didn't know the games existed at all! Despite being big into Nintendo games—namely Super Mario—and having a DS, I simply had never been exposed to them. The most I knew about Pokémon was through the trading card game after being introduced to it by a friend. She had given me a few duplicate cards, including Pokémon such as Oshawott, Deerling, and Petilil (this was during the Black and White era), and this sparked my love for collecting cards. Eventually I had my own little collection. One of the cards in this collection was a Jirachi card. It was holographic and both purple and silver representing Jirachi's dual typing, the most unique card I had. That, along with the fact that I thought Jirachi was super cute, resulted in Jirachi being my first favourite Pokémon, and remains my favourite to this day!
After some time, however, I stopped thinking about Pokémon. It wasn't until the release of Pokémon GO in 2016 that I rediscovered the spark. Honestly, that time when Pokémon GO was really popular was one of my favourite times. I'd go out for walks nearly every day hunting for Pokémon. I even got my mom to download the app, and we'd go for long walks together catching Pokémon and hatching eggs. It was a great bonding experience. Now a bit older and smarter, I also discovered the Pokémon games. Along with Pokémon GO, two new games were announced: Pokémon Sun and Moon. Unfortunately, I didn't have a 3DS.
After its release I begged my mom for a 3DS. When Christmas rolled around, I was so certain I would get it: a 3DS and Sun or Moon. But I did not. She got me a Mystery Dungeon game which I appreciated, but I had no motivation to play it after watching my cousins play the copies of Sun and Moon they recieved for Christmas. Hope was not lost, however, as later that day, there was a Christmas miracle: my grandpa got me a copy of both Sun and Moon! I was overjoyed, even though I couldn't play them, and my poor mother realized she had to give in and get me a 3DS.
The story doesn't end there, however, as apparently right after Christmas there were no 3DS's left in stores. Who would've guessed? It wasn't until around New Years on a road trip to Oregon, USA, that we stumbled into a GameStop and came across the last 3DS. Someone had ordered it but had yet to pick it up. It wasn't just any 3DS either: it was a 3DS XL, with a beautiful galaxy cover!
And my mom, my favourite person in the world, bought it for me. I remember excitedly playing it in our hotel room. I had already played a little bit of my copy of Moon thanks to one of my cousins letting me borrow their 3DS, but now I finally had my own!
So Pokémon Moon was my first ever Pokémon game, and Ultra Moon is my favourite to this day. Many of my favourite Pokémon came from the Alola region too, including Primarina (my favourite starter), Mimikyu, Mudsdale, and Lunala (one of my favourite legendaries). It's a weird first game, and I know a lot of people didn't like it for some of the changes it made such as getting rid of gyms, but I had nothing to compare it to. I also think it has one of the best stories and I love the concept of the region being four islands. But it's also because of this game that I truly fell in love with Pokémon and had it change my life. It's such a big source of comfort for me. I've also gotten into shiny hunting, nuzlocking, and competitive battling. Overall, it's such an important and fun franchise to me!
